    10. I bought my timeshare and when I went to use it for the first time, magically half of my points were no good. I was only allowed to use a week every TWO years not every year. Coincidence, I think not. I will gladly sign up for a class action lawsuit. I am paying 168 every quarter, 1344 every two years. Are you kidding me? I can rent a much better place for that amount.

    11. Still no Class Action Suit started by anyone? Just got election info for MGV. Who are the current Board and what the heck are they doing (or not doing)? What really CAN they do and why would anyone really want to run? Want to know truth abt how many original MGV owners have NOT converted to Diamond and are stuck with high Maintenance Fees and how many have just thrown in the towel..

    12. Hi Suzanne, we haven't switched over yet. I am working on starting a Facebook page to gather those who are interested in a suite. But I am not sure how to do so without sparking a problem from the enemy. Higher fees, taking points away, etc. We need to be very discrete about this. I have a feeling they are prepared for this to happen. Let me think more. I will get back to you. F*#@ Monarch Diamond.

    13. Our story is the same as everyone else's except that we were sold the "dream" of MGV in Aug. 2011 only TWO MONTHS before they filed for bankruptcy. They sold us many, many perks that Diamond refused to acknowledge and now we are treated as inconvenience every time (which is NOT often) that we call for a reservation. There is even a separate number to call because the regular Diamond staff will not help us. We were also cornered at the Cancun resort last year and were escorted out by an angry sales rep after we refused to upgrade. Please include us in any legal action. I can help organize, too!

    21. DIAMOND is a SCAM ARTIST! JONATHAN FANJUL is a bate and switch scam artist. I went to cancun resort as a Monarch owner and was advised to get an owner update for information on all my new benefits as an affiliate of Diamond. I was asked if I was invited to the HOA meeting for Monarch when they filed BK. I told them I was not. They looked all shocked and were like well at the time (2012 or so) All Monarch owners were supposed to get an offer to change completely over to Diamond. They said that they could attempt try and get me the deal that was first offer, but I would have to write this letter to Diamond saying I was never invited, etc. Anyhow they came back and said well we could offer your 6,500 point every 1 year instead of the 7000 points every two years and get you out of Monarch and you would solely be a diamond owner for $260 per month. I was currently paying $199.00 w/ Diamond and I thought for getting 13k point every 2 years vs 7k point was a great opportunity. I specifically asked the Shyster (Johnathan) that I would be completely out of Monarch and would only have to pay the $260.00 a month. He said yes! you would rid yourself of Monarch and be in the Diamond Family. I made the terrible decision of moving forward with what they offered under the assumption that Monarch would be paid off transfered completely ,because the equity I had with them was used to buy Diamond. The next day I was looking through the paper work along with my account with Monarch Online and saw that the $199 payment was still showing up on my account. I called Jonathan during this time (because of 5 day right to rescind ) and asked why do I still see this payment on my account and confirm that I will only have this one payment with Diamond. The slimball (Jonathan) verified and confirmed that I would only be dealing with Diamond and that it would take a few day's to update the accounting, because of the purchase date being on July 4, 2015. Fast forward a few weeks later and I get a call from Monarch collections and the collection person gives me the facts. That I'm still responsible for Monarch- Now I have to figure out a legal way to get out of this additional purchase, because I'm getting the run- around from Diamond. - ( JUST RUN AWAY- the free gifts aren't worth your time)

Has anyone on this board found a lawyer?

    23. I am at the Cancun resort in Las Vegas and went to a breakfast where they said they would simply update me about the change over to Diamond. I was told that I should have been invited to a dinner where I would have been given options, decided by a judge in a legal ruling against Monarch due to their bankruptcy. They proceeded to show me a print out that said when my current term expires in August. I would have to pay $573 per quarter to Monarch. They said that due to the bankruptcy, I would have no equity. That was option one. Pay more, have nothing. The other option they said was to transfer into Diamond at a cost of $12,000 plus and pay a yearly maintenance fee of $1,700. Less than the $2,292 I would soon be giving Monarch. They also told me that I would then have equity of $41,000 that I could sell. I was in tears. I do not have any extra money. In fact I have been looking for ways to get out of Monarch for over a year now. They said that was not an option and that as an owner, I was now proportionally responsible for their debt. I felt trapped and signed all the papers to transfer, with no idea how I can pay. After reading the comments above I am even more scared. I am trying to start my own business and am already in severe debt. They claimed when they ran my credit though that it looked better than most and assured me I qualified for financing. I would have to pay off, basically transfer to credit cards, which I can barely make my payments on now before I could look to sell. One of the reps assured me that she would put me in touch with someone who could help me sell my points. She even gave me her cell phone number to call after the sale/transfer is finalized. I am really scared though. Please help! We have to do something. It seems as though they have no qualms about lying to and robbing people for their own benefit.

    25. I just went through a similar situation this past October. After all the B.S. and lies, my wife and I just had enough and wanted out. I submitted a points surrender request, which might be the only way out of the MGV system completely. It sucks that I wasted all that money, but am glad to be done with those Diamond Sleaze Bags.

  15. I was just sold "The Sampler" package from Diamond even though we have points through Monarch. I was not told that you only have 30 days to convert to Diamond club to the tune of $12,000 minimum. We were lied to and the contract was misrepresented. We did not even get the contract until I called and asked for it. The salesman gave us a folder in which I thought was the contract but instead was a bunch of scratch paper. I called and asked for it and he did send it. When I read it fully, I realized that we had been deceived. He opened a credit card account for me without my knowledge. This is such a total scam. I wrote a letter to the President and he had someone call from the corporate office to make me buy more points to fix the problem. That would cost $11,000 with an additional $560 per year added on to our already outlandish HOA fees. I would gladly join a class action suit.

  16. I just went to the DRI scam meeting on 'converting my MGV points to DRI or would never be able to book.' Of course I would have to but at least $11,000 of DRI minimum purchase. I didn't drink the Kool-Aid. Is there any way to get out of this maintenance fee drain for a time share I can't use and can no longer afford the fees? I would sell my 327 MGV points for $1 just to be done with it, write me at gift @ firstqualityinc dot com.

  17. I did the same thing as the above letter only on August 9, 2014. I was told either I convert my points (133 every other year for the Monarch Vacation Club which is a "use only club". No deed to property. I only pay maintence feesof approx. $1250.00 per year, for every other year use.) to DRI at a total cost of $11,000 plus. If I don't buy DRI, I will continue to have to pay the maintenance fees forever & then my heirs too. If not, they will come after my assets, place me in collections, legally come after my assets etc. I am 77 yrs. old & widowed. I don't need this pressure or threats. It's ELDER ABUSE. I saw no way out so I bought the DRI points. Had no money for deposit of $2100.00 so had to put it on a credit card. This is bullshit. I am going to try to find a timeshare attorney & also call ELDER ABUSE to see what claim they have to me over a bankrupt companies maintenence points. If anyone else was pressured into this scam, please repond. JEB

    2. We were being pressured to purchase. Talked to 3 reps. After being there for a hour the third rep walks to the table slaps down the paper and says this is it. He was so rude. I had went to resort to enjoy and relax I didn't know I was going to have a high pressure meeting. My husband and I didn't sign anything and did not convert our points. Who knows what happened when we left. I should have made a seen and offered my points to someone else in the meeting.

  18. I recently made reservations at the Cancun Resort in Vegas, prior to our arrival we received a call telling us we should attend a 45 minute update of our time share. After more than 2 hours of high pressure sales tactics to convert to the DRI System for a whopping $23,000.00. We were told we would never be able to use the resort simply because the DRI System has more members than Monarch members.

He proceeded to say that DRI was giving me 30 times the amount of points for every one I already had, I told him that DRI was not giving me S**t that I had to purchase and covert to the DRI to stay within their system.

I told the initial sales rep at the beginning of our conversation that I was tired of the annual fees and I could make reservations for the amount being paid annually to ANY resort, hotel, in the world without having to worry about reserving my time a whole year ahead of time and be forced to an annual debt. I can go on vacation when I want, where I want without have to worry about exchanges.

Needless to say I didn't agree to the conversation

  25. Just got back from the Cancun Resort in Las Vegas yesterday. I'm very disappointed in the way the Diamond insists on trying to convert Monarch Owners who have repeatedly told them that "we" are not interested in putting another dime in this time share.

For those who have had a similar experience, isn't it amazing how they tell you that you don't have to go to the sales presentation but the fact is that you can't even check into your room unless you agree to show up for breakfast at 8:30AM the next day. If I can book time and use points at Cancun I will, but I will never ever allow them to direct me to the VIP Check-in. I'm only 60 years old and I still have many more years to work, but when I looked around that breakfast room and saw all the older couples having to endure that painful presentation I couldn't help but wonder how much longer Diamond can continue this practice of pressuring the Monarch owners into converting. You can't even get up and walk out. Then at the very end of the presentation they have the nerve to ask you to go into your contacts on your cell phone and write down 4 referrals. Ridiculous!

  31. I had a very similar experience at the Cancun resort. This was the first time I had actually used my ownership after being an owner since 2009. I was told I was attending an owner update meeting to help answer any questions I had and to show me how to actually use our ownership...( I was there with my kids without the joint owner) I endured a three hr high pressure sales presentation and many threats were made. I was also told that if I did not convert over and accept their offer it would be noted in my records that I declined and would not be offered the conversion again. I would be declining for both myself and the other owner...This is not only illegal but would be considered forgery if I was to sign for (either conversion or decline) for someone else. Unfortunately what I (we) thought was an investment and an opportunity to start taking a vacation once a yr was the worst decision ever!!! Please include me in any class action suit or anything that can be done to stop this and receive some kind of resolution and consequences for Diamond international for their tactics. d.sk.leonard@hotmail.com

He had to sneak on property by the beach side, the guards in front would not let him in. They are making no special considerations for points expiring, and we haven't been able to use them for a year!!! So frustrating! HOA fees are still being billed and collected though!

    1. 45. We were just contacted by Diamond telling us that our Monarch fees are going to increase by 15% each year and that it is better for us to pay $15,000 now to change over to Diamond. Has anyone else gotten these calls?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. We were told same story. We sat through a 90minute then 3hour pressure sales. We were told our maintenance fees would go up to 4,000. So we converted right there to Diamond Resorts. $12,000. But wait we still had to pay for the monarch which is the maintenance only since we have had it so long. And since it was the low end of Diamond Resorts it really would'nt give us anything but debt. We canceled this rip off contract had to go to web site for time share cancelations. A lot of faxing mailing etc. Diamond resorts did send cancelation notice.

I wonder how many MGV owners really converted. If only a few converted, then there are still msny MGV owners out there with the voice to speak out against this unfair increase of fees and dishonest tactics of DRI.

  54. After reading all of the threads about Monarch Grand Vacations and how everyone believes they were scammed, on behalf of my friends who called me to review their ownership docs, I must agree with all comments.

I am not an attorney. I am a consumer advocate and a business consultant. I want to help. Please read the following scenario and try to understand it. When you are finished, look for another comment from me in about ten days. My suggestions will assist you all dearly. I'm doing this for my friends because they too, are at their wits end.

A story: a couple were looking for change to put into a parking meter. They couldn't find any, but if they walked to the nearby marke to get some, they would surely get a ticket. The meterperson was ticketing the car behind them.

The meterperson saw the problem with the couple and offered them a wooden nickel to put in the meter. They just knew it wouldn't work, but forced it into the meter anyway, ONLY because the meterperson encouraged them to do so. The meterperson said to the couple, "Go on and do it! What do you have to lose but a ticket? I know the wooden nickel works, I give them out all of the time ."

Well, the couple believed and trusted the meterperson. The nickel became stuck in the the meter causing the knob to freeze. The meterperson gave them a ticket anyway!

The couple chagrinly stated, "You tricked us. You knew that nickel wouldn't work!" The meterperson connivingly replied, "How do you expect me to make a living if I don't write tickets?!"

As the meterperson walked away, the couple stated with stern confidence, "I will start at the top to prove you deceived me for personal gain and get you removed from your position. I will then go to the top to get this meter fixed, my ticket dropped and your wooden nickel WILL be returned to you because that is all you're worth!" Stay tuned. ...

  60. OUR STORY IS THE SAME. They convinced us to "upgrade" our membership just as they were filing bankruptcy. I was uneasy about it but my wife was excited about all that they promised. THEN We bought a Sampler Package with Diamond to see about transferring our membership. Yup...They wanted another $25,000 from us and higher maintenance fee. Scam from the beginning. Embarrassingly I am a real estate broker and didn't heed the red flags.

  61. recently received a phone call from DIA member services about moving from monarch to dia and they would only charge us 6000.00 to convert over. We passed, and are now waiting to see what the next offer or what ever will be. We would definitely be in for a class action suit.

  62. I am interested in being considered for inclusion in any class action suit. I started with Monarch. Did a "Conversion plus" to Diamond in December 2012 at a significant cost to buy in...and now they are calling saying I am still Monarch becoasue the court did not approve something and want me to pay more to be a full Diamond member or I will face staying with a failing company (Monarch) and paying higher and higher maintenance fees over time. Said flat out that I did not have full access to resorts with my conversion which explains why I never have been able to book reservations when I wanted to travel...or anytime in the foreseeable future in the case of Hawaii in late 2012 or 2013. Sand I would no longer have to pay Monarch maintenance fees after our mortgage was paid off. Said Diamond fees would cover maintenance for all the "Points" when it was paid in full. Paid off Monarch and, of course, now they have no idea why that was said... but it was not true. Such a rip off.

  63. I am also looking into a attorney to break myself free from the Monarch hell. I cant give the damn thing away, No one wants to buy it and Diamond refuses to deed back, take back, for close what ever on this damn thing. There are a ton of sites that claim to help you break your contract but 99% seem like scams and want a huge fee up front! If they are so good they should be able to do their job, get you out of the contract and charge you after. If anyone hears of an way to get out please share!

  89. WoW! I'm amazed by all of these examples of morally corrupt business practices by MGV/DRI! Our society has come down so far to the point of professionals in business willing to do and say anything for a buck. We too just experienced the same ordeal at the Cancun LV resort (06/03/16) and were amazed at the callousness displayed toward us when we wouldn't fall for and buy into their scam. All professionalism and courtesy disappeared. We as consumers have to realize that we still do have rights even though they seem to be of no concern to the legal community. When everyone talks about a "class action" lawsuit there ain't no lawyers that give a crap about helping us unless there's some $$$$$$$$ in it for them. Hey, who wants to work for nothing. We should however, all start investing in some consultation fees with a good Real Estate Lawyer to get his opinion and direction. Most lawyers of this degree of experience and professionalism will most likely at least give you an educated opinion and maybe a starting direction. Just remember, a good hearted consumer can put up all the blogs and websites they want, which is exactly what I believe is the best first step to combat this "Timeshare" injustice, but, we still have to find a vehicle with some "TEETH" in it to put some fear into these scam artists machine and way of doing business. The 2nd most important thing for us to do is go to the government. Not in the sense of contacting local law enforcement. This is still a civil matter. And the only Politicians in our corrupt governmental system that will even give a hoot about our pain will be your local Federal and State Representatives who rely on OUR VOTES to keep their jobs. We have to get their attention and make them aware of our problem and the terrible things that go on with the overall TIMESHARE scams that are being perpetrated. We also need to become more educated about the Monarch bankruptcy and everyone needs to get copies of the legal court proceedings and any discharges related to our owners rights. Right now, I don't see anyone from MGV or DRI making any efforts to educated us about that other than how we can "CONVERT" our worthless points to their Marvelous Points system, but for what appears to me to be paying for the whole timeshare scam again from scratch with another company. To me they're just using us as a "pool" to supply "fresh meat" to their profit machine. Here's a metaphor for you to think about: would you buy your new car, with a finance contract, then towards the end of the contract, buy it again for the same price? That's kinda how I see this. Come on folks, start asking questions with the right people. It'll be much cheaper in the long run to pay for a few legal fees consulting with lawyers and talking to your local State & Federal Reps. to make them aware of our need for justice and fair business practices. That's the problem with our country, no one wants to go to the extra effort to maintain justice and keep their freedoms. Good Luck to us!
