More LIES & DECEPTION from Diamond Resorts Sales Team

Read the FULL E-MAIL here!

This morning my wife and I were shocked to see an e-mail from Amber at Diamond Resorts Sales office telling us that we needed to move rooms.

Move rooms?  Why would we move rooms in the middle of our stay?

As premier Monarch Owners we all get access to room up-grades if they are available when we check-in, and this year when we checked in we were given the Penthouse on contingency that we attended the sales presentation.

We were curious to learn more about the new Management team of Diamond Resorts International (see our story here to learn more) so we gladly took the up-grade and scheduled the sales presentation the very next day.

Diamond Resorts International has now illegally threatened to move our room to a 1-BR (we are in the Penthouse) because we didn't buy their $50,000 up-grade.  Not only is this illegal to do, but its the lowest form of sales tactics we have ever seen, even in timeshare.

Why is this illegal?  Besides being a HORRIBLE way to earn business, this is called taking back a 'premium' which is illegal.  You cannot entice someone during their stay with up-grades and then take those up-grades back when they do not buy your product.

Once again our trust is broken by Diamond Resorts International and their Sales-Manager Amber is walking on thin ice with us owners right now.

More to come in the future!  Don't forget to share YOUR experiences by posting a comment!

  1. Just sent in my "opt-out" notice for the Club Connection Fee. This fee should really be an opt-in situation imo.

  2. oops, forgot to introduce myself! Hello Joseph, My name is Ken and I've been an owner for almost 2 years. I became an owner strictly to use Cabo Azul as a 3 or 4 night easy getaway 2 or 3 times a year. I am also concerned w/ the transition, but I'm not ready to be so hard on Diamond at this point. I also attended a sales meeting last month to see what the sales team was up to. I didnt take much of what they said too seriously. IMO they are just there to sell and get their commissions. My main concern at this point is that Diamond is going to gain control our owners association when they are able and then bully us somehow.

  3. Ron and I just returned from a week at Cabo Azul! Our time there was spent enjoying the sun, San Hose Cabo, and the staff at the resort. Like many of you,we bought into Monarch several years ago, intending to use Cabo Azul only.(two or three times a year). We upgraded our ownership on the promise of upgrades and early reservation access.
The only downside of our trip was the sales meeting with Diamond. I had to walk out of the presentation due to the inconsistent representations and less than true information about monarch and my rights going forward. Seeking legal advice on the contract and HOA terms seems prudent to protect my investment. All I want is to receive what I was promised and paid for. Hope to see you soon back at Cabo Azul!

  5. Glad to see this site. I also feel that Diamond does not have the best interests of the homeowners in mind. The whole process seems extremely deceptive and manipulative. As I shared with them, if they really offered something of value for the $50 quarterly Connections Fee, they wouldn't have to manipulate people into it by adding it to our invoices and forcing us to take additional action to opt out of it. What I want to know is what happened to the Board of Directors for Monarch Grand Vacations Homeowners Association? Supposedly the HOA was not affected by Diamonds acquisition, yet the website has disappeared and there is absolutely no information on Diamond's website about the HOA. What happened to the communications we used to receive from MGVOA?? Did the directors all bail out and leave it for Diamond to control? Today I see that the Annual Meeting is being held in Las Vegas in the middle of the week! Seems again manipulative to me to control the environment and prevent people from participating and having their voice heard. We do need to have our voices heard so I hope all owners will attempt to attend so that we can hopefully learn what we can do to protect our investment. See you in Las Vegas!

  9. Has anyone NOT converted their Monarch Grand Vacation point to Diamond Resorts? I attended the presentation this weekend and they filled us with fear about assessments that we would have to pay for upgrades to the property which the Monarch owners would have to pay for? I've read horror stories about how difficult it is to book Diamond Points. I bought the sampler, but I have time to rescind the contract still. Any insight would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

  10. What happens if we don't convert our Monarch point to Diamond?

  11. We too were told that our villa can no longer be guaranteed to us if we do not convert to Diamond. We refused to convert and received all sorts of threats that we may not even get a villa on the front of the resort when we book. We went through the "new" central reservations system to book our room for October. We are staying 12 nights, but our points only cover the first 7, so we tried to add the nights through the resort. They are trying for me, since we do this every year. They said that Diamond wants to charge us full retail for the added nights, so the resort management is trying to find someone to help them accomplish this. We are supposed to get the MGV discount when we pay cash for the room. It was sold to us this way. Is there any way that Diamond can not be obligated to honor our original contract? Any help on this issue would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for staring this page.

  16. I am a consumer protection reporter and am currently working on a story regarding the experience of legacy Monarch owners now that Diamond has taken over. I encourage you all to look at the website below. It describes a recent court victory by former Monarch owners who alleged that they were upsold by a Diamond with the understanding that they would be able to access Palm Canyon Resort. Despite the representations made in the sales presentation, plaintiffs alleged that they were unable to book at Canyon. The case was assigned to arbitration and Diamond was ordered to refund the former owners $40K plus attorneys fees. I highlighted this decision in a recent article, but would love to hear from other legacy Monarch owners about your experiences. I encourage you to contact me at clarion.johnson@gmail.com.

    1. Best of luck. Please be careful about they company that you use. If you are not a member of the Timeshares Users Group, I suggest you join and consider asking about that company that you are using. In the time that I have been researching timeshares, I have come across many stories of people getting ripped off by companies claiming to be able to get you out of a contract.

  19. Everyone had an interesting "story." I'm on this blog because friends of mine asked me to help them get out of a DRI contract. I am not an attorney; my friends know that I know how to get to the bottom of things.

I wrote one letter to DRI as a consultant on behalf of my friends. They received a response to my letter very quickly. They are out of the contract. I didn't charge my friends because it was so easy for me to do what I did.

I'm sharing this story because MGVers do not and should not pay anyone more than $500 to get out of their time-share(s). Although variables are not all similar, but those who own their time-shares should not pay $2500 in fees to walk away! My friends just sent me a cashier's check in an amount that was comfortable for them.

The bottom-line to my comments are:
    1) Read your contract(s) thoroughly.
    2) DONOT sign any contract with DRI if you own your MGV time-share.
    3) If you want to let it go, do it.... either by Voluntary Surrender or by Assignment and Transfer of Ownership.
    4) Why surrender to the lions if there are interested parties willing to take up where you left off? Sometimes your season for doing certain things just ends ... accept this, and move on. Be certain your contract includes membership AND HOA fees (at your rate). If it doesn't, this could be a cause of action for the courts.
    5) To those MGVers who can't let go, start a business (counting waves to reduce stress)
and have your business meetings at the resort..... write off the expense, expense, expense. No joking, setting up a dba is not expensive. And finally,
    6) A tip to all MGVers: Highlight every business entity on your contract(s); confirm that they legally exist; if they don't & you've been sending payments to "shells," contact the Atty Gen of that state so that office can stop the madness. Hint: sending payments to Florida, eh? If there is no dba in the name on your check in the city & state of the "business" you are paying fees thereto, then contact the Atty Gen of the state. This will be my first step on behalf of my friends... who are now my clients. There is no Monarch Grand Vacations Owners Association registered to do business in Florida. I can be
    reached at: AwesomeDelivers@gmail.com

  20. I would love to know what my options really are regarding my timeshare. I bought 133 points in 2011 in Vegas, and got the Diamond hard sell routine recently. No way in hell I'm "upgrading" to their plan. I'd like to get out. And I am like so many who are struggling to accept the complete loss of all that money invested in those perpetual vacations that I can pass on to my grandchildren by trying to get out.

So, according to TimeShareExitTeam, a bunch of lawyers can get me out of the fees, but then I have to pay them, and yes, my entire investment is gone.

According to SellMyTimeshareNow, people are lining up to buy, and the contact told me I can sell for potentially MORE than I bought it for, and their fee (including closing costs) are $998. That's (if the internet is reliable) double what it was in 2011 when someone else tried, got nowhere, and couldn't get a refund.

But since I'm seeing no bids on Ebay for HALF what I paid, I'm guessing SellMyTimeshareNow was possibly inflating their ability to move my timeshare as well.

Transparency Matters, I'd love to see the letter you sent Diamond that made them nullify the contract for your friends. I'd also love to see some other alternatives, if there are any.

  22. I have been an owner for nearly 6 years. I recently attended a sales meeting at Palm Springs that left me feeling fearful and very confused. At this point Im not sure if I want to keep points, buy into Diamond or keep things as are. My biggest issue is that the HOA fees are soon high! Diamond lead me to believe that due to improvements they will go up again very soon. I have 155 points. It just doesn't seem worth the fees. Any input

  23. Just found this site today, and I have essentially the same question that was asked 2 years ago -- which of the candidates for the MGV Owners Assoc Board of Directors would serve us well and be deserving of my proxy vote for the upcoming election which we must submit by March 4, 2016?

    ReplyDelete
  24. Ive been an owner for over a decade. I dont really like diamond. But why do we need a board of directors at MGV? I wish i could sell and stop this non sence. MGV promised things they could never do. We bought mostly because of the cancun resort and because it was going to be a great resort. Now it has rusting metal as a view.

  27. It is June 2017 and I am a long term Monarch owner, 80,000 in equity. Loan paid off. I arrived in Cancun today in LV and got talked into going to a meeting to find out what is new. Honestly I was clueless about all the changes and simply thought my membership/ownership just transferred to Diamond. They kept me trapped under high pressure for 2.5 hours and totally used scare tactics about how I own stock in a bankrupt company and have just thrown away my money. But for a mere 24,000.00 I can belong to the VIP Diamond program and after that my yearly dues will only be $2900 verses the $1400 I pay now. How I am on a sinking ship and need to get out is they will still let me. Honestly it was like being a a car lot. They had me going and I had to step away! But the offer was only good right now. I walked away needing to think. After reading all of this I will just leave things along. What awful high pressure sales, I will be calling corporate and complaining.

Anyone out there still a MG member?

    ReplyDelete
  28. I finally got the stuff from yesterday cancelled and got my hotel credit. It took getting the GM, VIP folks and the front desk involved. The sales person turned into an asshat once he realized he would not being making money off me. Made it extremely difficult to get my credit. These people are downright rude and crazy!

Question for anyone still a MG owner, are you still using it? If I were to buy someone else's points do I just transfer the deed and pay the maintenance fees? I am happy using the program as I have been for 30 years.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Yes that is exactly what I did, I don't think it was the best decision, because I am making two maintenance fees every year for $800 each when all I had to do was book more time on Priceline.com or hotwire,
we are in Mark and monarch grand vacation owners that will not upgrade with diamond international
They wanted 20,000 more dollars to travel three weeks a year for the rest of our families life here on earth until that day comes when they go bankrupt,
I politely declined and told them that I do not want to be a diamond international traveler

  30. Is this site still active?? I see the posts are 4-5 years old. Anyway the Diamond sharks are still out for blood. Still did not convert despite being told MGV is bankrupt and that my dues went up 400% , a lie. I pointed that out twice. Anyway they suckered us into a sampler . I guess we will use it and be done with them. We will still have to attend another3-4 hour torture session. The next time I will be prepared with documentation of their lies and half truths.
